Carrie McClelland
Yukon Environment
Growing up in the suburbs of Toronto, Carrie developed a love of nature by spending summer days building tree-forts in the local urban park. She was then drawn to northern Ontario where she attended Lakehead University and received an Honours Bachelor of Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism, then a Master of Environmental Studies in Nature-based Recreation and Tourism. In 2007, research for graduate school took her even further north to Whitehorse, Yukon, and she forgot to leave. Carrie has been working for Yukon government’s Wildlife Viewing Program since 2009. Staff work directly with biologists to engage and inspire people to learn more about Yukon’s wildlife. In her spare time, you can find her figure skating, canoeing, rock or ice climbing, curling or taking on more wood-working projects that never get finished.
