Chris was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi. His early life along the north central the coast of Gulf of Mexico, instilled in him a deep respect for the marine environment and a strong sense of place that has led to a life long career based on personal responsibility and stewardship of these precious natural resources. He received a B. S. degree in Marine Biology and a M.S. in Workforce Training and Development from the University of Southern Mississippi. He has previously held the positions Marine Education and Media Specialist at the Marine Education Center, Co-Director of GCRL’s Summer Field Program and Public Information Officer for GCRL.

Over a 30-year career, he has developed and implemented conservation and resource protection regulations, conducted public information campaigns, produced media tools and participated in hands-on educational programs focused on Mississippi’s coastal habitats and the animals that call them home. Over the past several years, Chris has headed the efforts to design and build a new marine education and outreach center in Ocean Springs. The MEC reaches over 10,000 students, teachers and residents annually with hands-on experiential STEM-based educational programs.
